IFK Gothenburg striker Marcus Berg, 35, had to endure hatred and threats this summer during the European Championships. The 35-year-old missed a good position in the premiere against Spain (0-0), but was still exposed. The Swedish Football Association then chose to report several comments to the police, but now the preliminary investigation has been closed.
Berg now says that SvFF also decided to send guards to his house in Gothenburg, where his family was during the championship.
– Security personnel patrolled outside the house. Drove around and was in control, he says Göteborgs-Posten and continues:
– At the same time I was sitting in a hotel room in Spain. Because of me, they would feel fear and anxiety.
Berg believes, however, that his family still felt safe in Gothenburg.
– Threats and threats, there are people who can do everything. Josefine still felt safe. We live well, have good neighbors. But just when it happens, that it becomes a thing … The thoughts come. It is difficult to stop, he says Göteborgs-Posten.
After the European Championship play-offs, Berg left the Russian team Krasnodar for a return to IFK Gothenburg. Berg has this year been one of Blåvitt’s best players and is listed for seven goals in 16 matches in the Allsvenskan. He has a contract with IFK over 2023.
