Researchers, people who are as thirsty as anyone else, have studied the effects of the two types of drinks, from several points of view, they report. BBC.
Which gets you drunk faster?
A beer tap or a medium glass of wine have about the same amount of alcohol. However, the speed with which it reaches the blood varies, in the case of the two drinks.
A group of subjects was asked to drink a drink of 15 types of alcohol, given 20 minutes.
Not surprisingly, in the case of “strength”, alcohol reached the bloodstream the fastest. This was followed by wine (peaked at 54 minutes after consumption) and beer (peaked at 62 minutes after the drink was over). Therefore, a glass of wine will reach brain faster than a beer. If you don’t want to be laughed at too quickly, choose beer!
Which makes you fatter?
Alcohol contains calories, so gain weight anyway. When the sugars that give it taste also enter the equation, it becomes a real calorie bomb. A beer cap contains about 180 calories, double that of wine.
Studies to see which of the two drinks make you fatter have not reached a clear result for the simple reason that they took place over relatively short periods of time (maximum 10 weeks). In the short term, neither beer nor wine drinkers took in weight more than a kilogram, but in the long run it is suspected that both categories will be “rounded”.
Even with one kilogram every 10 weeks, it still reaches 25 kilograms in five years.
Which gives the worst hangover?
As for the severity of the hangover, after one of the two drinks was consumed, the scientists did not agree. In fact, even now we do not understand 100% what causes the hangover. Dehydration is an important factor, but fermentation could also be to blame.
The fruit that makes the hangover easier
In general, darker drinks are even more toxic – bourbon than vodka, for example. In the case of beer and wine, however, the effects are similar, say researchers.
Which is better (or worse) for health
We are told that a glass of wine a day helps the body, reducing the risk of pain from heart, high blood pressure and diabetes. The beneficial effect is given by polyphenols (which are found especially in red wine), which relieve inflammation and more.
Beer is not often on the list of healthy foods or drinks, although it also contains polyphenols. However, their beneficial effect is “modest”, similar to white wine, significantly smaller than that of red wine.
Verdict: When it comes to health benefits, wine is preferred. But beer drinkers can say that their favorite drink has an old history. Some anthropologists claim that our pleasure of drinking beer made us start farming, laid the foundations of our civilization. Here’s something to think about when waiting for your order at the bar!
