Berau Regent’s Trip Confirmed from Positive Covid-19 to Death

SAMARINDA, KOMPAS.com – District Heads Berau, H Muharram, died while undergoing treatment at Pertamina Balikpapan Hospital, East Kalimantan, due to being positive for Covid-19.

This 52-year-old man breathed his last on Tuesday (22/9/2020) at around 16.45 WITA.

Before being tested positive for Covid-19 and being treated, Muharram had accompanied the working visit of Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Edhy Prabowo to Maratua, Berau.

Edhy visited Berau on Tuesday (1/9/2020) to release 300 hatchlings into the coastal waters of Green Nirvana Resort Maratua.

Muharram also accompanied Edhy on the visit.

Quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Edhy’s visit was the first time in Berau after being appointed minister.

Apart from Minister Edhy, also accompanied the visit the Director General of Marine Spatial Management Aryo Hanggono and the Chairman of the Indonesian Turtle Foundation, Bayu Sandi.

During a visit to Maratua Island, Berau, Edhy was accompanied by Muharram and a number of other KKP echelon I officials.

Before visiting Maratua, Edhy had visited Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, and Ambon, Maluku.

Minister Eddy is Reportedly Positive Covid-19

Three days after the visit, Minister Edhy was reportedly positive for Covid-19 after returning to Jakarta.

A number of national media are busy reporting that Edhy has Covid-19.

Five days after the news that Edhy contracted the corona virus, on Wednesday (9/9/2020) Muharram tested positive for Covid-19.

These results were revealed after Muharram conducted a health check as a condition for advancing the 2020 Pilkada at the Kanujoso Djatiwibowo Hospital in Balikpapan.

Director of Kanujoso Regional Hospital, Eddy Iskandar, said of the two prospective candidates for Regent and Deputy Regent of Berau only Muharram who did a medical test at Kanujoso Hospital was positive for Covid-19.

“At that time we asked about his latest activity. He conveyed that he had close contact with guests from Jakarta, “said Eddy to Kompas.com.

According to Muharram’s account to the medical team at Kanujoso Regional Hospital, continued Eddy, they met on Maratua Island.

“He didn’t say a name. I just said that they received guests from Jakarta to meet them on Maratua Island, ”he said.

Apart from being diagnosed positive for Covid-19, the results of the medical team’s medical examination said Muharram also had hypertension and diabetes.

“So it could spread to the heart because of hypertension,” said Eddy.

Since then, said Eddy, Muharram had a cold and had a slight fever.

Muharram asked him to undergo treatment at Pertamina Hospital until he died today.

Deputy Regent Corrects Muharram Accompanying the Minister of KKP

Deputy Regent of Berau, Agus Tantomo, confirmed that Muharram accompanied the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Edhy Prabowo during his visit to Berau.

“Yes, he (Muharram) is accompanying him,” he said.

However, Agus does not want to speculate on the source of the virus that infected Muharram.

Announce Yourself Confirmed Positive Covid-19 Through Video Recordings,

After being tested positive for Covid-19 Muharram himself announced that he was confirmed positive for Covid-19 via video recording on Wednesday (9/9/2020) night.

Muharram said he was positive for Covid-19 because of his negligence when interacting with someone.

He did not mention the identity of the person in question. It’s just that, Muharram apologized.

“I apologize profusely to all the people of Berau Regency for this incident. Some time ago I interacted with someone. So it happened like this, “said Muharram through the video.

Muharram asked the Berau people, especially ASNs who have interacted with him, to immediately check themselves to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.

Muharram also said that he did not experience any serious symptoms. Just having headaches and flu.

Have Complementary Diseases

Muharram died allegedly due to respiratory failure while receiving treatment in the ICU room at Pertamina Hospital, Balikpapan.

Muharram closed the age of still having a positive Covid-19 status.

“He died of respiratory failure due to Covid-19,” said the Deputy Regent of Berau, Agus Tantomo.

According to Agus, Muharram has a history of heart disease.

While being treated at Pertamina Hospital, Balikpapan, he was also diagnosed with diabetes.

“But the main cause is Covid-19,” said Agus.

Shortly after Muharram died, the Berau Health Office issued a written official statement.

The press statement said that during Muharram’s treatment, Muharram’s condition fluctuated.

His condition worsened once experienced on September 13, 2020.

Then it got better, but got worse today until he failed to breathe and he died.

The medical team at Pertamina Hospital had tried their best, but the severe pneumonia caused by Covid-19 had attacked the entire lung accompanied by comorbidities.

Muharram’s death is the third death case due to Covid-19 in Berau Regency.
