It was due to open in October 2011 and ended up being the project that undermined German efficiency. There were years of successive errors, controversies, lawsuits, extraordinary budget overruns (it cost almost 4 billion euros more than expected). Three decades after the first sketches, finally Berlin-Brandenburg airport (in Schönefeld) opened on Saturday, October 31. This is the first weekend of BER flights.
