Karim Benzema received the 2022 Ballon d’Or at the awards ceremony at the Theater du Chatelet, Paris, Tuesday (10/18/2022) WIB in the early morning. Striker real Madrid emerged victorious ahead of Sadio Mane and Kevin de Bruyne.
Benzema’s success continues Real Madrid’s tradition of individual events. Luka Modric wins Golden Ball the last time was in 2018, while Cristiano Ronaldo dominated the period 2013-2017.

By winning the Ballon d’Or at the age of 34, Benzema also became the winner of the award at the oldest age since Sir Stanley Matthews. Matthews won the first edition of the Ballon d’Or in 1956, winning it at the age of 41 while playing for Blackpool.
For Benzema, this Ballon d’Or proves that his ambition is no less than age. Last season he pointed out that his form has only grown with age, scoring 44 goals and 15 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions.
“Age doesn’t matter when it comes to winning this trophy. There are players who have shown they can still compete beyond the age of 30, but you have to have a lot of ambition, desire and work very hard,” said the Real Madrid website.
“You have to work harder and have very clear ideas in mind, and this motivated me to have more ambitions, but above all you have to have fun playing on the pitch.”
