Kurt Zouma, football player of West Ham United, pleaded guilty Tuesday to mistreating his cats, which he hit and kicked last January. This is how the news agency Efe reports it.

Zouma pleaded guilty in Thames court, in the French capital, where he faces three charges not only for causing damage to his animals; but also to prevent them from suffering damage, after the footballer was recorded by his brother, Yoan, mistreating his cats.

This happened last January, when the French appeared in a video kicking their cats and chasing them with a shoe to hit them. The UK animal shelter took him out of custody and continues to care for the cats to this day.

After the images went viral, Zouma indicated in a statement: I want to apologize for my actions. There are no excuses for my behavior, which I sincerely regret. I also want to say I’m so sorry to anyone who was upset by the video.”

Along the same lines, he added: “I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy. They are loved and appreciated by our entire family, and this behavior was an isolated incident that will not happen again.”

Yoan, Kourt’s brother, also faces two charges for doing nothing to prevent cat abuse and for instigating the player to do so.

Zouma, on the other hand, he was sanctioned by West Ham with 250,000 pounds ($312,337 dollars) of fines in January. In addition, he was several games without playing; although David Moyes, his coach, confirmed that the player would not receive punishment in the form of suspension. “We want to make it clear that We do not tolerate cruelty to animals in any way”indicated the club in a letter.
