Bentancur leaves Juventus to discover the Premier League with Tottenham

Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was transferred by Juventus from Turin to Tottenham Hotspurs, both clubs announced this Monday, a few hours after the winter ‘mercato’ closed.

The amount of the operation for this 24-year-old player, at Juventus since 2017, is estimated at 19 million euros plus another 6 in variables, indicated the Italian entity.

“During his four and a half seasons at Juventus, Rodri made 181 appearances in all competitions. He scored three goals, two in Serie A and one in the Italian Cup, in addition to 17 assists and an 89% pass rate. In the last four seasons in Serie A, Bentancur was the Juventus player who made the most tackles, with a total of 205 and 147 interceptions,” Juventus summarized in its statement.

In his ‘bianconera’ stage, Bentancur became a fixture in the Juventus line-ups, being the player who played the most games in the black and white shirt with a total of 133, the same as the Argentine Paulo Dybala.

As a Turin native, Bentancur closes his stage with three Serie A titles, two Italian Cups and three Italian Super Cups.

Tottenham, for its part, specified that the footballer has signed a contract until 2026, although the pass is “subject to international authorization and work permit.”

Bentancur will join the ‘Spurs’ after the match of the Uruguayan team against Venezuela that will be played on Tuesday in Montevideo, valid for the World Cup qualification.

He will not be the only player to fly from Turin to London, since both entities also announced the transfer to the ‘Spurs’ of the 21-year-old Swedish striker Dejan Kulusevski.

– Kulusevski also changes Turin for London –

Juventus gives the forward, on loan until June 2023, the date on which the ‘Spurs’ must execute a purchase clause if certain sporting criteria are met.

Tottenham will pay 10 million euros for the transfer and 35 more if the purchase is executed, according to figures offered by Juventus.

Kulusevski arrived at Juventus in the summer of 2020 and despite expectations, he has not managed to establish himself as a fixture in the ‘bianconera’ forward, neither with Andrea Pirlo last season nor with Massimiliano Allegri in the current one.

In 75 appearances with the ‘Juve’ shirt, the Swedish international has scored 9 goals.

These two Tottenham signings respond to the demands of his coach Antonio Conte to strengthen himself in order to fight for qualification for the next Champions League.

After 23 games played in the Premier League, the ‘Spurs’ (who have only played 20 games) occupy 7th place with 36 points, two behind Manchester United, fourth and marking the Champions zone.

From Juventus’ point of view, the Piedmontese club needed to drop ballast up front after the signing of Serbian Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina, and Bentancur’s departure will be offset by the arrival of Swiss international Denis Zakaria from Borussia. Mönchengladbach and which was also announced this Monday.
