Benoit Paire Explains His Reluctance to Play in France: Insights from the Orléans Challenger

Currently entered in the Orléans Challenger, Benoit Paire is playing one of his rare recent tournaments in France. Why such reluctance to evolve in France? The enfant terrible of French tennis answered this question precisely after qualifying for the round of 16. With frankness, as usual.

Currently 121st in the ATP, Benoit Paire has high hopes for the end of the season. If we know that the Avignon native can sometimes have a series of “white” weeks, during which he loses interest in the yellow ball, he is currently going through a good period which allows him to foresee a quality end to 2023.

Benoit Paire explains why we no longer saw him in France

The latest proof? His convincing victory against Kyrian Jacquet (6-1, 6-4) at the Orléans Challenger, which allowed him to reach the round of 16. Well in his game and in his head, Paire also took advantage of the post-match press conference to explain the reasons for his distance from France for a few months.

As honest as ever, he simply explained that he went through a phase during which he was more comfortable and calmer to perform abroad:

It’s always good to win. It’s been a long time since I played in France, so I’m happy. I had moved away a little, because I found that my level was not good enough for what I could offer to the public. I thought it was good to play a little further, with less pressure and fewer demands.

It’s true that it did me good to play a little bit on clay, abroad. To be a little more in anonymity, in calm…

A strategy which has borne fruit given the good form of the Frenchman, who has even set himself a major objective for the end of the year. And at this rate, it’s a safe bet that he’ll be able to reach it once the time comes:

I’m feeling good at the moment, I’ve had some good results. I’m trying to achieve my goal which is to be in the top 100, so that means winning as many matches as possible between now and the end of the year.

Fans of the whimsical Benoit Paire can rest assured: he has not turned his back on France, but has simply chosen to top things off by favoring foreign countries for a few months. A winning shot at given this successful return of the Frenchman, which however requires confirmation during the rest of the week in Orléans…
