The love story between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck is officially over. The famous American singer and actress has filed for divorce from the former Batman actor after two years of marriage.
American singer Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from actor Ben Affleck, according to US media reports on Tuesday, after two years of a marriage that was a second chance for one of Hollywood’s most famous couples.
Nicknamed “Bennifer”, the duo set the internet and the celebrity press alight when they tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2022, 18 years after the end of their first relationship.
But Lopez filed legal divorce papers with a Los Angeles court on Tuesday, industry outlets TMZ and Variety reported. Her rep declined to comment.
Rumors of a separation between the 55-year-old singer-actress and the 52-year-old actor-director had been brewing for several months.
A first separation then a marriage 20 years later
At the end of July, “JLo” celebrated her birthday without her husband present, according to tabloids. On this occasion, she posted a long message of thanks on Instagram, addressed to her fans, family and loved ones, but which omitted to mention her spouse.
The couple put their luxurious Beverly Hills mansion, which they bought together last year, up for sale in early July, according to TMZ. Affleck has since bought a new home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, according to the magazine.
They met in 2002 on the set of “Gigli”, widely considered a flop, and their romance was subsequently followed closely by the paparazzi.
