In Bennekom, a cell tower burned out early this morning. Police are taking arson into account, reports Omroep Gelderland.
The fire broke out around 04: 30. Because the cables were already on fire to a height of about 25 meters, the fire brigade ordered an aerial work platform.
The police immediately closed the vicinity of the cell tower for trace investigation.
In December two towers also went up in flames, in Beekbergen and Loenen. In the spring of 2020, there was a wave of arson attacks. 29 cell towers were set on fire across the country.
Six suspects
Six suspects have been arrested for the 2020 fires, ranging in age from 23 to 34 years. The Public Prosecution Service then stated that there was no “organized partnership” between them and assessed the cases separately.
A number of suspects said they were afraid of the rollout of the 5G network. They fear health damage from the radiation.
