Benjamin Netanyahu Discharged from Hospital After Dehydration Scare

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing heart monitoring tests. The tests showed no irregularities, and Netanyahu’s hospitalization was due to dehydration. The 73-year-old leader was taken to a hospital near his private residence in Caesarea on Saturday after complaining of dizziness. He was kept overnight for observation.

In a video statement issued from the hospital, Netanyahu appeared to be in good spirits. He explained that he and his wife had spent a day at the Sea of Galilee without proper protection from the sun, which was not a good idea considering the ongoing summer heatwave in Israel.

Sheba Medical Centre confirmed the original diagnosis of dehydration and stated that Netanyahu’s heart was in excellent condition. However, a heart monitoring device was implanted for routine monitoring purposes.

As a result of the prime minister’s hospital visit, the weekly cabinet meeting scheduled for Sunday was postponed until Monday.

Netanyahu is generally considered to be in good health, although he was briefly admitted to the hospital during the election campaign last year after feeling unwell during prayers for Yom Kippur.

In 2010, the prime minister’s office released a protocol requiring annual public reports on the incumbent’s health. However, Netanyahu’s staff has not released any reports since 2016.

Netanyahu returned to office in December as the head of a coalition of far-right and ultra-religious parties. His government has faced intense opposition to its plans to overhaul the judicial system. Supporters argue that the changes are necessary to address what they perceive as a left-wing bias in the decisions of the supreme court. Critics, on the other hand, fear democratic backsliding and believe the overhaul will aid Netanyahu in his fight against graft charges, which he denies.

The issue has sparked a protest movement, including pressure from the technology sector and military reservists. It has also damaged Israel’s economy and drawn criticism from international allies, such as the United States.

Israel is now preparing for an intense two weeks before the Knesset breaks up for summer recess. Despite planned protests and strikes across the country, ministers are pushing to pass a key part of the government’s controversial overhaul into law before the end of the parliamentary term.
