The adjusted measures for youth camps do not fall well with the Flemish Minister of Youth Benjamin Dalle (CD&V). The minister especially criticizes that the Consultation Committee has not consulted the sector. “I feel very bad about this,” he says.

Benjamin Dalle (CD&V), Flemish Minister of Youth, is not tender for the past Consultation Committee. There it was decided that no overnight stays may take place at youth camps during the Easter holidays. The camps must also divide the participants into groups of ten (instead of the agreed 25). “That is not workable for youth organizations,” Dalle responds to Radio 1. He regrets that the rules will be adjusted again shortly before the Easter holidays. ‘This is not good governance’, it sounds.
• Five questions | What are children allowed to do during the Easter holidays?
The minister especially criticizes that the decisions were imposed from above. ‘There have been no more consultations for two weeks,’ he says. ‘We used to always test the measures with the youth sector. The summer holidays have shown that this approach works. ‘ Dalle hopes that this ‘bottom up’ approach can be restored in the future.
Infections in children
Due to the more contagious variant, more and more infections are diagnosed among children. The school has overtaken the workplace as the place where most corona infections are diagnosed. This jeopardizes the measures for education and youth. On Monday, the education ministers must propose additional measures. Dalle hopes that the schools can remain open.
The rising figures divide the Consultation Committee. Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon (N-VA), who represents the Flemish government in the consultative body, indicated that the increase was ‘not exponential’. Waiting for the figures to rise further is completely out of the question, according to Minister of Health Frank Vandenbroucke (SP.A).
