Arsenal, led by manager Arteta, is having the worst season of the 21st century in the 2020/21 season. After former coach Arsene Wenger left Arsenal at the end of the 2017/18 season, coach Unai Emery made a 5th place in the 2018/19 season.
However, coach Emery was hardened during the season due to poor performance and very poor performance in the 2019/20 season. Frederic Ljungberg served as manager at the time, and then Arteta was appointed in December of last year.
Head coach Arteta led Arsenal, who was 11th at the time, and finished the season at 8th in the league, and raised the trophy to win the 2020 FA Cup, raising expectations this season.
Arsenal of manager Arteta continued to suffer a big slump because of the high expectations. From the defeat of the Aston Villa in the 8th round of the league to the 1-2 defeat of the Everton away match in the 14th round, they fell into a swamp of 7 games.
The ranking went down to 15th, and Arteta was in a hard crisis. Arteta revived his knight by winning the 15th round of Chelsea and the 16th round of Brighton Hove & Albion.
However, the Arsenal board members changed their mind. The media reported that the board members are preparing for the appointment of experienced Rafael Benitez if Arteta’s grades deteriorate.
Benitez gained experience in the Premier League in Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle. In Liverpool, he also won the 2005 UEFA Champions League trophy.
Meanwhile, Benitez is currently coaching Dalian FC in the Chinese Super League. The contract period is until December 2021, with about one year remaining.
