Ph:DR: School textbooks for the improvement of the Beninese education system.

A very simple ceremony organized on Thursday April 27, 2023 in the office of Minister of State Abdoulaye BIO TCHANÉ in the presence of the Minister of Nursery and Primary Education Salimane KARIMOU and the Minister of Higher Education Éléonore YAYI LADÉKAN enabled the Government to thank these experts. These technicians are the designers of decodables and activity books in French and mathematics for CI and CP classes. They were thanked for their contributions to improving the Beninese education system. The technicians are the designers of the decodables and the exercise books in French and in mathematics for the CI and CP classes.

About fifty in number, these technicians have, for four years, worked for a good revision of the textbooks so that the level of the pupils (already from the Initial and Preparatory Courses) is consolidated. “You who have shown patriotism, sacrifice and professionalism by investing in the proofreading of curricula, in the design and production of decodables as well as in the production of activity books for the success of the reform, I send all my heartfelt and warm congratulations and that of the entire government,” declared the Minister of State to those happy of the day.

Mr. Abdoulaye BIO TCHANÉ also, on behalf of the Head of State Patrice TALON, thanked the recipients for the quality of the work and the technical and financial partners for their permanent support for development actions in Benin. It was also the forum for him to recall that President Patrice TALON has made it a priority, for his second term, to strengthen human capital and improve the quality of education in Benin.

This tribute ceremony was an opportunity for the government to take stock of the expenses incurred in this curriculum revision reform and the results obtained during the 2022-2023 academic year. It should be noted that with the support of the World Bank, 1,537,937,156 FCFA were used to print documents for the 2022-2023 academic year, not including the financing of design and teacher training workshops.

In total, 2,860,000 copies of activity books were printed for learners in CI and CP classes throughout the national territory. Evidence of massive government investments in building human capital. An effort welcomed by the group of technical and financial partners in the education sector who, through the voice of its Representative, Mrs. Djanabou MAHONDE, officially announced that it will support the Beninese government for the multiplication of French activity books CI and CP classes during the 2023-2024 school year.

For the Beninese government, which attaches great importance to the quality of education, it is important to make children master reading and writing, which are undoubtedly the foundation of academic success. The Ministry of Nursery and Primary Education has expressed a major concern, that of preparing, through an integrated circular approach, a citizen who knows how to think for himself, enterprising, autonomous, responsible and driven by the desire to improve himself, of his works, his society and his environment. The current improvement of the study program in French for CI and CP classes allows learners to be more awake.

The actors, unanimously, also recognized the need to review the content of mathematics textbooks. This revision will allow the development of learners’ skills through the fundamentals which are the solid foundations of mathematics on which the teacher must be able to rely for the upper classes.
