Benin has signed two financing agreements worth a total of €32.17 million for the Agricultural and Rural Training Support Project (ProFAR 2), aimed at rehabilitating agricultural technical high schools and training 900 young people per year . The conventions were signed last week by Benin’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Romuald Wadagni, and France’s Secretary of State for Development and Francophonie, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou.

The Ministry of Secondary and Technical Education and Vocational Training will be responsible for the implementation of the ProFAR 2 initiative, which provides for the creation and rehabilitation of twelve agricultural high schools in the north of the country, as well as the place of integration mechanisms for trained young people. In December 2021, Benin and the French Development Agency (AFD) signed a €20 million financing agreement for the construction and rehabilitation of agricultural high schools, which is also part of the National Strategy for Technical Education and vocational training (SN-EFTP).

The SN-EFTP, adopted by the Beninese government in December 2019, aims to increase the proportion of learners in technical education and vocational training from 11% in 2019 to 70% in 2030. Of the 30 agricultural high schools targeted by this strategy, the AFD is financing the rehabilitation of 12 of them, specified Chrysoula Zacharopoulou. Thanks to this initiative, the young people of Benin will benefit from quality training and will be able to integrate more easily into the labor market, thus contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.
