Ph:DR:: “Dear women, be women of impact” declared the Minister of Social Affairs, Véronique Tognifodé

The Minister of Social Affairs and Microfinance, Ms. Véronique Tognifodé, spoke this Friday, February 9, 2024 at the Djougou Prefecture with women leaders who are beneficiaries of the Gender Equality Support Program (PAEG). At his side, there was his colleague from Industry and Commerce, Ms. Shadiya Alimatou ASSOUMAN.

During the session, the two ministers discussed the vision of the Government of Benin which is to ensure that women have a positive impact on their living and working environments. Minister Tognifodé indicated that the Government’s investments in various programs and projects for the benefit of women are explained by the fact that it would like to count on them to contribute more effectively to the development of the country. To this end, she invited them to be true leaders wherever they are.

“The woman leader must not raise her voice but raise her words. The woman leader is not necessarily the financially rich woman but the woman rich in ideas; the woman recognized as a model by society,” said Ms. Tognifodé before inviting the audience to support the deployment of projects and programs in favor of women; notably the PAEG. She continued with strong messages of exhortation: “As a political actor, the woman leader must make herself available to attend accountability sessions in order to better know how things are going. It is therefore important for trained women to have a vision and objectives for decision-making positions in order to chart their political course. Dear women, be women of impact!”

During the session, women from several communes of the Donga and Atacora departments took the floor to testify to the good concepts that they have been acquiring for a while thanks to the PAEG. They thanked the Government and its partners, in particular Swiss Cooperation, for setting up this program.

Minister Assouman was personally delighted by the change in mentality and behavior observed among these women, based on their testimonies. She invited them to be more engaged in order to achieve the empowerment desired by the Government.

The session saw the active participation of those responsible for the PAEG Management Unit led by Ms. Valérie Idossou. (Source : Gouv.bj)
