Beni Suef Welcomes the ‘Journey of a Thousand Kilometers’ Initiative for Women’s Reproductive Health

Dr. Mohamed Hani Ghoneim, Governor, witnessed Bani SweifThe opening session of the awareness session within the axes of the “Journey of a Thousand Kilometers” initiative, which is implemented by the Egyptian Society for Cervical Endoscopy under the title “One Step ahead.” It takes place under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Solidarity and in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, and aims to empower women and support reproductive health, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed El-Azab, President of the Egyptian Society for Cervical Endoscopy, Dr. Ihab Kamal, Advisor to the Minister for Medical Education, Dr. Abdullah Mabrouk, Member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Mohamed Youssef, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Major General Sami Tawfiq, Member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Engy Hassan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Solidarity, Dr. Mostafa Haroun, head of the Beni Suef Doctors Syndicate, Nermin Mahmoud, rapporteur of the branch of the National Council for Women, Hani Al-Juwaili, head of the city, and a number of executives and clerics. The session, which was held at the Engineers Club, was presented by Rania Alwani, executive director of the Egyptian Society for Cervical Endoscopy.

In his speech, the Governor of Beni Suef welcomed the guests from the Ministry of Health and the Egyptian Society, expressing his happiness and eagerness to participate in this important meeting, which is being held on the land of Beni Suef, within the activities of the “Journey of a Thousand Kilometers” initiative, especially since Beni Suef is the second stop of the initiative after Alexandria. He stressed his full support for any initiatives or activities concerned primarily with improving the level and quality of health service provided to citizens in general and women in particular, explaining that Beni Suef is considered one of the governorates that witnessed a qualitative shift in the health system through the establishment, replacement and development of general, central and quality hospitals, which is what is added. To the state’s credit and achievements in the sector, whether through developing the infrastructure of hospitals and buildings or presidential initiatives such as the 100 Million Health Initiative, pointing to the achievement achieved by the Egyptian state in the field of treating Hepatitis C under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who took the initiative, so that Egypt became one of Leading countries in this field in an effort to declare Egypt free of the disease within a short period.

The governor also praised the initiative, which aims to educate women about reproductive health, contraceptive methods, and early detection of cervical cancer, which enhances the trend towards preventive medicine and early diagnosis to detect the disease in its early stages, which contributes greatly to eliminating the disease, appreciating the role of The Egyptian Society, as one of the general civil society associations in the field of communicating medical thought and awareness, pointed out that Beni Suef was one of the first governorates in strengthening the role of civil and volunteer work, noting the first civil action document to unify the efforts of civil society, in which 100 civil society organizations and institutions currently participate, This is within the framework of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and his conviction of the importance of civil society in advancing Egypt’s 2030 development vision, and the necessity of working as one team on various files and issues and in all fields.

During the event, the objectives, axes and action plan of the initiative were reviewed, which is being implemented in several stages, and includes 3 main axes. The first axis is related to raising awareness and training social and rural women leaders in solidarity and health to enhance their medical awareness, in a proper way for women, and the second is related to training the medical staff of private clinics. “Reproductive health and early detection of cervical cancer,” which was equipped in the Beni Suef and Beba centers, to train doctors and nurses on how to use various family planning methods and use a cervical speculum to ensure the provision of medical service with high efficiency, in addition to economic empowerment through training women in entrepreneurship and encouraging them. To work on projects.

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Cervical Society explained that one of the goals of the “Thousand Kilometer Journey” initiative is to train the medical personnel present in the Ministries of Social Solidarity and Health and Population, as well as training community leaders, indicating that the goal of the trip is training, awareness and empowerment, and includes training on methods. The best way to prevent pregnancy, examine the cervix, and how to protect and prevent uterine cancer, as “since the start of the association’s work in 2020” about 1,000 doctors have been trained, more than 2 million women have been educated, and 5,000 women have been examined, noting the opening and equipping of 2 clinics in the city of Beni Suef and the center Biba, which will provide the service within a week from today, adding that “over the past two days” the association has trained 60 doctors, 400 pioneers affiliated with Solidarity, and 200 female health professionals in Beni Suef Governorate.
