The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), together with the countries and territories of the Region of the Americas and its partners, will celebrate the 20th Vaccination Week in the Americas (VAW) and the 11th World Immunization Week with the call to action “Are you protected? Get all your shots.”

The health authority added that the brigades will be joined by permanent positions in health centers and concentration vaccinations promoted in educational units, nurseries and kindergartens. Moreover, the night work of some health establishments is managed.

The intention of this campaign against measles, rubella and polio is to reinforce the vaccination scheme that was somehow neglected in recent years due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The target population of Headquarters is to vaccinate 54,945 children throughout the Department, so parents were asked to go to one of the vaccination points or wait for the mobile brigades. Immunization is free and important for your children, Suarez said.

Meanwhile, the head of Epidemiology, Antonio Castro, assured that all the biologicals are available to reach the estimated amount. One of these vaccines is the BCG that is given to the newborn, in addition to the pentavalent, the polio and rotavirus vaccine, among others.

He recalled that, during the last two years due to the coronavirus emergency, there were significant numbers of children prone to diseases typical of newborns and children under 5 years of age, since they did not receive the full schedule of vaccines.

The country is even in the process of being certified for the eradication of poliomyelitis, but current coverage is not acceptable. “With these activities we want to strengthen mass vaccination this month and continue the rest of the year with the regular EPI,” said the epidemiologist.
