Carl Bengtström has had his big breakthrough this season and has set his sights on a final place in the 400 meter hurdles at the World Championships in Eugene.
And Bengtström got off to a good start at the championship. In the trial heat he was good in the race and could finally finish third in the time 49.64. Thus, he is ready for the semifinals. The top four in each heat directly qualify for the semifinals.
– Everything feels good, you have just been waiting to get started now, so now you just have to reload for the next round. Home and charge and full focus, says Bengtström.
Warholm easily moved on
Norwegian world record holder Karsten Warholm has been injured for most of the season. And the Norwegian decided as late as Monday that he would participate in the World Cup. But when it was time for his heat, he showed that form is still there. Warholm easily advanced to the semifinals in the time 49.34.
– It’s very fun to be back. Now I’m here and it feels good, says Warholm.
Did you feel any anxiety before the race considering the injury?
– Yes, a little worry, especially considering that the last race went so badly, you think about it a bit
Given the injury, have you worried that you are no longer the best you are used to being?
– It is part of the sport that it is tough competition. We will find out later what it looks like and how the damage feels. Let us not bury the patient before he is dead, says Warholm.
