Trubin’s move to the Ukrainian national team did not go as Roger Schmidt expected. The Benfica coach expected the goalkeeper to start in both games for his country to gain rhythm and then be introduced into the Eagles’ starting eleven.

A regular supporter of the Ukrainian national team (he was until he arrived at Benfica last month), Trubin was on the bench in the qualifying games for Euro 2024 against England and Italy. Two complicated tests that, for Schmidt, would be very important to launch the young 22-year-old player now.

With the Champions League and the League clash with FC Porto approaching, Schmidt believed he could now bet on Trubin, despite Samuel Soares (starter in the last three games) having given positive signs. Unlike the Ukrainian, Samu was a starter in the qualification of the Portuguese under-21s, finishing with a clean sheet (zero goals conceded against Andorra and Belarus). With Vizela, in the League game on Saturday refereed by Luís Godinho, the doubt persists . Schmidt believes that Trubin will be the starter in goal soon, but he also knows that putting him without a competitive rhythm could be negative for the player if he has some kind of error. But it’s not just in goal that there are doubts. In defense, full-back Bah is still recovering from injury and only the day before the game will he know if he can be called up (Aursnes and João Victor are the alternatives). In attack, Arthur can take the place of Musa, who played for the Croatian national team, having played 29 minutes in the meetings with Latvia and Armenia.

POINTED MEDIUM
Argentine midfielder Ezequiel Fernández was appointed to Benfica on Wednesday. The Boca Juniors player was already in the Reds’ orbit, but now the website ‘todofichajes’ is once again placing the 21-year-old midfielder as a priority to cover a possible sale of Florentino Luís in the next transfer market in January.

BENFICA SPENDS 188 million euros
The Football Observatory took stock of how much the current squads of all the teams in the world cost. Benfica comes in 45th, with 188 million euros in signings – Kokçu was one of them.

FC Porto is 51st (152 million euros) and Sporting 52nd (151 million euros). Eagles, Dragons and Lions are 7th, 11th and 12th in the list that excludes the five biggest European leagues.
