Trubin’s move to the Ukrainian national team did not go as Roger Schmidt expected. The Benfica coach expected the goalkeeper to start in both games for his country to gain rhythm and then be introduced into the Eagles’ starting eleven.
A regular supporter of the Ukrainian national team (he was until he arrived at Benfica last month), Trubin was on the bench in the qualifying games for Euro 2024 against England and Italy. Two complicated tests that, for Schmidt, would be very important to launch the young 22-year-old player now.
