Benfica wins Portuguese championship in final day showdown against Porto

This Saturday, the fight between Benfica and Porto for the title of the Portuguese champion was played out in a final day which promised to be breathless. Leader at the start of the evening, the SLB were two points ahead of the Dragões in the standings. Opposed to the red lantern Santa Clara, the Lisbon people did not crack and largely imposed themselves to win the 38th title of champion in their history.

Goncalo Ramos and Rafa Silva quickly put Benfica to safety in the first act. For his last match before his departure to Bayer Leverkusen, Alejandro Grimaldo completed the success of his team on penalty on the hour mark (3-0, 60th). Against Vitoria Guimaraes, FC Porto won by the same score but could not prevent the coronation of their rival. This is the first time since the 2018-2019 season that Benfica have won the Liga Portugal Bwin.
