This Thursday, Benfica is trying to arrange a meeting with Estoril Praia in the semi-finals of the Football League Cup, a game in which they only need a draw at Estádio da Luz, against AVS, emblem of the II League.
To guarantee victory in Group B of the competition, one point is enough for Benfica, which would add four, unreachable for the already eliminated Arouca (three) and for this Thursday’s opponent, who enters the field, starting at 8:15 p.m., no points.
AVS, coached by former footballer Jorge Costa and who is second in the II League, can only dream of qualifying if they beat Benfica and, at least, by two goals difference, which would leave them with the same points as ‘ eagles’ and with an advantage in the difference between goals scored and conceded.
In the ‘final four’ of the competition, on January 23 and 24, 2024, the winner of Group B will face Estoril Praia, who won Group D, while the other semi-final will pit the winners of pools A (Casa Pia or Sporting de Braga) and C (Sporting or Tondela).
Program for the third round of the League Cup:

Benfica — AVS, 20:15.
– Friday, 22 December:
