Benfica to the quarter-finals after eliminating Ajax

Benfica step into the quarterfinals Champions League. The Portuguese club won 1-0 over Ajax in the second leg of the round of 16.

Duel Ajax vs Benfica The second leg of the Champions League last 16 was held at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Wednesday (16/3/2022) early morning WIB. The two teams drew 2-2 in the first leg at Benfica.

Ajax appeared dominant in the first half. The hosts created a number of opportunities that threatened Benfica’s goal.

Ajax had scored a goal through Sebastian Haller at the beginning of the first half. However, the goal was not approved by the referee for offside.

One of Ajax’s best opportunities was obtained by Ryan Gravenberch. His kick from the edge of the penalty box forced Odisseas Vlachodimos to save.

Ajax continued its dominance in the second half. However, it was Benfica who scored first.

Darwin Nunez scored against Ajax in the 77th minute. He heads Alex Grimaldo’s free-kick from the right.

Until the game was over, Ajax was unable to score a reply. Benfica qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals with a 3-2 aggregate advantage.
