Benfica away to Club Brugge headquarters in the first leg of the last 16 of the Champions League. The Portuguese team came home with a 2-0 win.
Club Brugge vs Benfica took place at the Jan Breydel Stadium, Thursday (16/2/2023) in the morning WIB. The visitors came close to taking the lead in the second minute through Gonçalo Ramos’ header from a corner.
Two minutes later it was Club Brugge’s turn to almost score. Tajon Buchanan fired a shot from close range at a tight angle, but the ball was saved by Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Brugge started having trouble pressing Benfica when the match had been running for 10 minutes. Roger Schmidt’s men created many threats, one of which almost resulted in a goal through Rafa in the 33rd minute.
The game started running at a moderate tempo. Until halftime, Brugge and Benfica did not score.
Benfica was awarded a penalty in the 51st minute. Joao Mario as the reliable executor succeeded in bringing Benfica to a 1-0 lead.
The goal made the match even more interesting. Buying and selling attacks was unavoidable.
Club Brugge conceded when they needed an equaliser. David Neres recovered from possession and then faced the keeper to give Benfica a 2-0 lead in the 88th minute.
There wasn’t much time for Brugge to reduce the gap. As a result, Benfica won with a score of 2-0.
