Gonçalo Guedes will undergo surgery on his left knee, Benfica said.
According to the note from the reds, the Portuguese international has a knee problem, “with meniscal affectation”, which will require a surgical intervention “to be carried out in the next few days”.
The 26-year-old winger filed complaints after the game in Vizela, on February 25, and was left out of the game with Famalicão. He later returned to training under Roger Schmidt and was on the bench against Club Brugge, but ended up not being used by the German coach.
Loaned by Wolverhampton in January, Gonçalo Guedes now has two goals and an assist in eight games for Benfica. For now, it is not yet known how long the footballer trained in Seixal will be out of action.
