Benfica Footballer David Neres Faces Disciplinary Proceedings by Portuguese Football Federation

The Disciplinary Council (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has instituted disciplinary proceedings against Benfica footballer David Neres.

In the deliberations announced this Thursday, the FPF CD indicates the «initiation of disciplinary proceedings against David Neres Campos, by deliberation of the professional section, of May 30, 2023, with the object of determining the possible disciplinary relevance of constant factuality of news publicized in the media”.

In the celebration of Benfica’s title of national champion, David Neres published comments on the social network Instagram in a way of provocation to the Portuguese international midfielders Otávio, from FC Porto, and Pedro Gonçalves, from Sporting, and to the two rival clubs. The situation led FC Porto to announce a complaint to the FPF CD.

In addition to this situation, on the day of the title, last Saturday, Neres decided to comment on a publication on the official Instagram of FC Porto, questioning Otávio’s serious air, when he scored the second of three goals for the blue and whites in the last round, against V. Guimarães. «Where’s the little smile», questioned Neres, already at dawn, at the end of the festivities in the Marquês.

The Portuguese international from FC Porto would respond on Sunday morning: «David Neres, win twice more and tie with me, we are tied for titles in Luz», he said.

Francisco J. Marques with two lawsuits

This Thursday, the FPF CD announced, in addition to the lawsuit against Neres, two disciplinary proceedings against FC Porto’s communication director, Francisco J. Marques.

One of the proceedings has «declarations made under the focus of offenses to the honor or consideration of arbitration agents or violation of general duties, following the participation presented by the Portuguese Association of Football Referees» and another «declarations made on a social network, following the participation presented by the Arbitration Council of the Portuguese Football Federation».
