Benfica fans deny being part of violent ‘casuals’ group accused of heinous crimes

Of the 13 members of the “casuals”, violent Benfica fans who are linked to the No Name Boys, accused of various crimes, eight are identified in the rape of the teenager and remain in preventive detention and the other five have to report daily to their police station. area of ​​residence and do not enter sports venues.

The group faces serious accusations, including the rape of a minor under 16 years old with a stick, also a Benfica fan but who had Sporting friends. The defendants are also being tried for crimes of robbery, offenses against physical integrity, aggravated rape, illicit recordings, aggravated coercion, disobedience, possession of a prohibited weapon and drug trafficking. They were arrested in January, in a mega operation by the Criminal Investigation Squadron of the PSP in Lisbon against violence in football.

At trial, they are responsible for three episodes of violence that occurred in April 2022, always near the Estádio da Luz, before or after football games.

The first case was in a post-game. The defendants took the boy behind a hamburger truck, in Alto dos Moinhos, as he had photographed the cheering section and shared images on social media, identifying fans. The defendants didn’t like it and wanted the photographs.

Furthermore, they did not tolerate the boy having sporting friends. Behind the trailer, they sexually molested him with a stick, threatened him, assaulted him and robbed him.

On another occasion, when he was with a friend, near the stadium, the same young man was attacked again, photographed naked and deprived of his property.

The indictment describes a third episode of violence, also in April 2020, in which one of the defendants, accompanied by an unidentified suspect, stole tickets for a game between Benfica and Liverpool from another fan.
