The Benfica coach did not make a statement to RTP, in the flash interview after the victory against Famalicão, on Saturday, nor did he attend the press conference.
According to the newspaper O Jogo, the absence in the RTP flash interview was due to the fact that Roger Schmidt only spoke to one media outlet, and the coach made statements to Sport TV.
It should be remembered that it was an RTP journalist who, after the derby against Sporting, asked Schmidt if “the result had been better than the performance” which provoked a curious reaction from the coach, saying that the journalist should support “Sporting or FC Porto”.
According to the same source, Schmidt did not attend the press conference due to the absence of a translator. In anticipation of the game against Famalicão, journalists asked questions in Portuguese and Benfica asked the FPF to have a translator present. The organization said that this was the responsibility of the organizing club and, for this reason, Benfica decided that Roger Schmidt would not appear in the press room.
