Benfica coach spoke about Artur Soares Dias’ controversial decision in the derby against Sporting
Roger Schmidt spoke this Wednesday about the controversial move that involved Di María and Pote during the derby in Alvalade.
“It was a touch to the opponent’s face, it’s true. But it wasn’t anything that was very violent, but it wasn’t 100% correct. But I see things in a more global panorama. Di María is a player with great quality and who believes that games should be fair. I’ve said before that referees sometimes demonstrate their status by constantly marking a lot of fouls. I don’t know if you’ve noticed that Di María suffers a lot of fouls, but that doesn’t translate into many direct free kicks. We have to respect Di María, for his career, but also for his values. I have no doubts about his personality. He is a player who is always willing to play important games”, said the Benfica coach on preview press conference of the game with Marseille counting for the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
