Benfica accelerated talks with Boavista to sign Pedro Malheiro and, according to the More footballwas available to pay between two and three million euros for the right-back.
In principle, the checkered emblem is available for sale in January 2024, preferably above three million euros, and this sale could be precisely Pedro Malheiro. In this case, however, Boavista wants to retain part of the player’s pass, who has a contract valid until June 2025.
The name of Malheiro, 22 years old, has been well mentioned behind the scenes at Luz since last season – the information about the opening of negotiations with the Eagles was initially published by the newspaper O Jogo.
However, as it was possible to know, Benfica is not the only club that wants the young right-back: Sp. Braga has also expressed interest in Pedro Malheiro, and may even move forward with more concrete negotiations soon.
Signing a right-back for the rest of the current season is one of Roger Schmidt’s priorities, who, at this point, only has one native athlete in the position: Alexander Bah. All other choices are adaptations: Fredrik Aursnes, João Neves and João Victor.
Born in Vila Verde, Pedro Malheiro split his training between Vilaverdense, Sp. Braga and Palmeiras, all clubs from Minho. At the age of 16 he arrived at Boavista, the club where he completed his training and became a professional. The full-back, who turns 23 in January, has spent seven seasons at Bessa, only interrupted by a half-season loan to Vilaverdense.
More options on the market
Agustín Giay, who belongs to San Lorenzo, from Argentina, is another name that Benfica likes. The 19-year-old Argentine right-back has been monitored by red scouts for months.
