Benefits are beginning to be paid to Ukrainian refugees in Latvia

The payment of the guaranteed minimum income (GMI) benefit to refugees from Ukraine has started today, Irēna Kondrāte, Director of the Welfare Department of the Riga City Council, said at a press briefing today.

Before receiving the benefit, specific people are called and given a specific time to visit the support center to receive the benefit.

As a result, people arrive at a certain time and there are no queues.

People are also given certificates to receive European food parcels. These packages are also available at the Congress House.

Payments to the House of Congress will continue throughout the week, and according to the Chondrate, it is planned to pay the GMI benefit to anyone who has applied for it this week. The disbursement of GMI will continue next week and the disbursement of crisis benefits will begin.

GMI is reportedly set at € 190 per person. But for each additional person it is 76 euros.

The government decided on a single crisis benefit of 272 euros for adults and 190 euros for children, setting it the same for all municipalities.

It is reported that 4343 people have been registered in the refugee center located in the Congress House in Riga so far. 676 applications for the guaranteed minimum income benefit and 695 applications for the crisis benefit have been received from the population of Ukraine. 630 people have applied for a European food package.
