To work 4 days of 10 hours. This is what nearly 50% of respondents who took part in a special study on the labor market want. Is this idea applicable in our country?
“To me, the idea seems good, but the people who would like to work differently from the standard 5-day work week are close to 90%. Such are the studies all over Europe, the USA, Japan – all over the world. There are countries , which in the last few years have undertaken active experiments in this direction, a similar example is Belgium and Portugal”, commented the human resources expert Petar Juganski in the studio of “Bulgaria morning”.
According to him, the experiments in many of these countries have been successful, and in Great Britain many of the companies have continued this scheme.
“During this period, companies are supported. Most often financially. The problem is that this is not applicable in every single industry. In some sectors, more people cannot be hired. Until now, the 4-day work week is only applicable to certain industries “, explained the expert.
Before Bulgaria ON AIR, Dzuganski emphasized that employers in Bulgaria are not open to such flexible work shifts.
“We are one of the countries in the EU where a very small percentage of people work fewer hours. A good example in this regard is the Netherlands, where a large percentage of both men and women work part-time. In Bulgaria, many of the employers do not want to think about such a thing,” emphasized the guest.
Nearly 50% of the people surveyed answered that they would work four days of ten hours a day, another 30% would work 3 days of 12 hours, but currently there are also people who work two days of 12 hours and two days off, pointed out Juganski, adding that for some professions this is not good.
“At the moment, we are observing the trend of people returning to offices. A large number of large foreign companies that have offices in Sofia during Covid-19 let everyone work from home. In most places, this did not have a negative impact. Now people are looking for flexible work patterns and telecommuting,” announced the HR expert.
