Benedikt Höwedes ended his football career. The world champion of 2014 announced this in a conversation with “Spiegel”. Although he still feels fit for the Bundesliga and has had several offers, he has resigned because of his family, said the 32-year-old.
Höwedes says that he noticed “how blatant it was for me to experience my son up close. Football suddenly became so unimportant for me.” Höwedes and his wife Lisa have been parents of a son together since 2018.
