Leonid Gaidai did not know how to make bad films. The list of his best films invariably includes the film adaptation of “12 Chairs”, which tells about the adventures of the tireless schemer Ostap Bender.
The work of Ilf and Petrov has always excited the minds of filmmakers both before and after Gaidai. So, in 2021, the film “Bender. Beginning” with Sergei Bezrukov in the title role. The audience, who grew up on the film adaptation with Archil Gomiashvili and considered it a reference, were beside themselves after watching it.
The creators of the tape “Bender. The Beginning”, according to them, vulgarized not only the previous interpretations of the work, but also the book of Ilf and Petrov itself. The film is a loose reading of the novel, but it didn’t go well.
In the center of the plot, which takes place in 1919, there are two main characters – Osya Zadunaisky and Ibrahim Bender. They decide to steal the royal relic – a precious wand. But Osya and Ibrahim are far from the only ones who came up with this dangerous idea.
