“We are close to the date of February 5, when the EU will stop supplying oil products from Russia – diesel, kerosene, fuel oil and gasoline. I hope that this will not affect the price of diesel in our country, as long as we have a refinery that works, we are provided with the necessary quantities of diesel as long as our refinery works”. This was stated by Svetoslav Benchev from the Oil and Gas Association in the program “The Day Live” on NEW NEWS.
He outlined the complexity of energy supplies. “There are countries like Germany, which have tried to reduce their dependence on Russia, as well as Austria, which imports diesel from Hungary, which in turn imports oil from Russia. A serious shortage of diesel is expected after February 5. It is difficult to say what will happen, I think that the market will be able to adjust, but we will see”, said Benchev.
Where does Russian oil go after the European embargo?
“The diesel that is in the country is in no danger of being exported,” he said.
“A new draft decision is currently being discussed, which says that diesel cannot be exported to the EU, it will be exported to Ukraine. This derogation is not yet a fact, it must be accepted by an EU decision. Now we have another decision which is valid until March 5th. I expect that diesel exports will be banned and only gasoline exports to third countries and Ukraine, where there are no export restrictions, will be allowed.
Bulgaria banned the export of Russian oil and oil products
We are well protected from a possible diesel crisis for Europe, at least until now, explained Svetoslav Benchev.
