[헤럴드경제=이원율 기자]Cristiano Ronaldo, the ‘superstar’ of Portugal’s national football team, has been dropped on the bench after missing a starting lineup in a recent match, and his family and loved ones have expressed their displeasure.
Cadita Aveiro, Ronaldo’s older sister, said on social media regarding the round of 16 match between Portugal and Switzerland at the Qatar 2022 World Cup held at Lusail Stadium in Qatar on the 7th (Korean time), “(Ronaldo) left the country and go home.”
He said: “Many Portuguese curse and attack Ronaldo” and “ungrateful”. “It’s very sad that this is happening in Portugal,” he said. “We will tell you what Ronaldo has achieved. We will tell Ronaldo that everything is fine.”
“I don’t want Ronaldo to go to the national team anymore – he said – Ronaldo has suffered enough”. Furthermore, he said: “No matter what decision Ronaldo makes, he will be with Ronaldo forever” and “I am always grateful to Ronaldo”.

Ronaldo’s girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez also stood up for Ronaldo.
Rodriguez congratulated Portugal on reaching the quarter-finals on social media, saying: “It’s a shame we can’t enjoy 90 minutes watching the best player in the world play.”
“The fans didn’t stop chanting his name (Ronaldo) and looking for him,” Rodriguez said.
Previously, Portugal beat Switzerland 6-1 in the round of 16 of the World Cup. However, at this moment, Ronaldo was not in the starting list. He was substituted in the 28th minute of the second half when the team led 5-1. Even Ronaldo was caught making his way to the locker room alone after winning.
After the match against Switzerland, Ronaldo wrote a message of encouragement on social media, saying: “It’s a fantastic day for Portugal, who achieved a historic result in the World Cup. “The dream is alive. Be strong, Portugal!”
Portugal will face Morocco in the quarterfinals at midnight on the 11th.
