Seventy-two new vehicles and other equipment worth a total of HUF 11.5 billion were handed over to county disaster management directorates and volunteer firefighting units on Friday in Budapest, at the headquarters of the National Disaster Management Directorate General.
On this occasion, Bence Rétvári emphasized that we are living in an age of dangers, epidemics, natural disasters and wars, but the security of the Hungarian people must not suffer.
The most important task for the state is to protect people’s safety, he added.
He observed – he continued – that people’s sense of security is decreasing in the majority of the member states of the European Union, but it is increasing in Hungary. And the government’s aspiration is for Hungary to continue to be an island of peace.
He also said that we can be proud of Hungarian disaster prevention specialists, who can stand their ground anywhere in the world.
As an example, he mentioned that after the Gulf War, most of the burning oil wells were extinguished by Hungarian specialists, and after the recent earthquake in Turkey, Hungarian emergency responders saved the most lives.
The development, which is one of the largest in the history of disaster prevention, and adapted to the technological changes of the time, also includes devices known as fire extinguishers, which are used to control fires in electric cars, said Bence Rétvári.
The development was implemented with the support of the European Union, within the framework of three separate projects of the Environmental and Energy Efficiency Operational Program.
At the ceremony, the disaster prevention and firefighting units were able to receive 37 fire engines, 12 flood rescue boats and their transport trailers, 23 drones and drone transport vehicles and 21 fire lances.
