The red and black Atlas have been eliminated from the Leagues Cup after facing Club América, losing by a score of 2-1. With this, they say goodbye to the competition in the Round of 16 to head back to Mexico to prepare for the return of Liga MX.

For the Zorros’ coach, Beñat San José, however, the Guadalajara team became a great rival for América and even pointed out that it was the protagonist of the match. This was what the red-and-black coach said in a press conference:

“Today we were the protagonists. We played against the two-time champions, Atlas was two-time champion two years ago and that’s a long time in football. I think we were the protagonists and that’s our idea. The match was decided by them, but we had chances for it to go the other way. I don’t look at the past, I see the present and the future.”

The bichampionship is past

For Atlas’ coach, Diego Cocca’s second championship is a thing of the past, as he believes that Atlas should also be a protagonist in Liga MX.

On the other hand, the Spanish coach assured that América is one of the strongest teams in the league, however, he assured that although his is a project that is just beginning, it will soon be able to consolidate itself and compete in a more important way in the league, until it becomes a protagonist:

“America has a consolidated project and we have one that we are starting, there are young players that we want to promote. We need to keep working and moving forward in that, obviously raising the level as a team. America has a super squad and it is very difficult, but we showed that we want to and we have been protagonists.”
