Ben Wenzler – Wikipedia

Ben Wenzler (Born August 2, 2000 in Stuttgart) is a German American football player on the position of cornerback. He has been under contract with the Stuttgart Surge in the European League of Football (ELF) since the 2021 season.

youth

Wenzler was initially active as a right winger in handball at MTV Stuttgart.[1] In 2013 he moved to Flag Football before starting American football after reaching the age limit. He did this in the youth of the Stuttgart Scorpions, in which he ran through all youth teams there in the following years. In 2017, Wenzler took part in a student exchange, so he spent a year at Alma High School in Michigan.[1] There he was also used in the sprint disciplines of athletics.[2] After his return to Germany, he was invited to the U17 squad of the Baden-Württemberg Lions and finished second in the national tournament.[1] In the 2018 season he was part of the Stuttgart team in the position of cornerback in the GFL Juniors, the top division for juniors in Germany, which won the southern championship and only just failed in the playoffs in the semi-finals. In his last year in the juniors 2019, Wenzler acted as team captain. In the 2019 GFL season, Wenzler also gained his first experience in the Scorpions men’s team, but could not record any statistics. For the 2020 season he should finally be included in the GFL squad, but the season had to be canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Stuttgart Surge

For the historically first season of the European League of Football 2021, Wenzler was signed by the Stuttgart Surge under head coach Martin Hanselmann.[3] Together with the Surge he clearly missed the playoffs with a victory record of 2-8. Nevertheless, Wenzler was able to draw attention to himself as a cornerback.[4] He scored a total of twelve tackles and one interception. At the beginning of January 2022, the Surge announced the extension with Wenzler for another season.[5]

Wenzler is left-handed. He is studying sports management at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen.[1]
