The dispute between Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia Sixers continues, even after the Australian’s transfer to the Brooklyn Nets. And for good reason, his first franchise continues to take part of his salary to pay the 19 million dollars in fines imposed on him because of the many matches he refused to play. The disagreement between the two parties will now be taken to court.
Indeed, the young man of 25 years has lodged an appeal to recover the sums withdrawn from it. An arbitrary decision that could have significant consequences in the future, particularly in terms of mental health.
Ben Simmons requested his transfer from the Sixers last August and he refused to go to training camp until he got his way. For the franchise, his choice not to train and not play did not respect the terms of his professional contract. Hence the payroll deductions, thus reaching an amount close to 20 million dollars.
The player justified himself by explaining that he was not mentally fit to resume competition. He also suffered from back pain, an injury that caused the Sixers to temporarily suspend fines. It’s those same back issues that have kept him from playing with the Nets since he arrived in Brooklyn.
Ben Simmons ready in time for the Playoffs with the Nets?
