Below zero degrees, a protest by Cuban exiles in Canada

A group of Cuban exiles in Canada demonstrated on Monday in front of the newspaper “El Diario de Montreal” (“Le Journal de Montréal”) due to what they consider journalistic pieces that the medium has published in favor of the Cuban dictatorship.

With banners, flags of Cuba and the song “Patria y Vida” in the background, which has already reached 3.6 million views on YouTube, the protesters said they were present despite the cold and snow.

“It has already started snowing, but it doesn’t matter, time is not going to stop us,” said one of the protesters on the YouTube broadcast that recorded the entire demonstration.

“No more complicity, no more lies”

The group claimed that the weather conditions would not stop them from expressing their contempt for the “dishonest” coverage that the important newspaper makes of the reality of the island.

“Today we were surprised by the cold, I think we are over -20 degrees below zero, but it does not matter, here the Cubans are arriving and we are going to protest in front of this newspaper that echoes lies and impudence about Cuba saying that there everything it’s fine and that Cubans have a dignified life, ”said another protester.

“The repression is on the rise, while they say that everything is perfect. We need to unite, raise our voices and draw attention, ”said another of the Cubans at the protest.

According to the protesters, the newspaper only shows the Cuba that the regime wants to show to hide what is really happening and to try to show the world that despite the United States sanctions the island is advancing.

On March 7, Cuban exiles participated in “Patria y Libertad” caravans in Montreal and Toronto, in solidarity with independent civil society and opponents in Cuba.
