“Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka” is one of the most beloved Soviet New Year’s fairy tales. The film took its rightful place in the filmography of the great director Alexander Rowe, although it turned out to be perhaps the most difficult in terms of editing. Because of this, if you look closely, you can find inaccuracies even in the final version.
For example, in the famous scene when Patsyuk eats dumplings with the power of thought. In the story, he looked at them into a bowl of sour cream, and then teleported them into his mouth. But if you look closely, you will notice: the plate, initially smeared with white sauce, is practically sparkling clean in the next frame.
The blooper occurred due to the fact that the rewind method was used during filming. Actor Nikolai Yakovchenko spat dumplings into a bowl, and assistants dipped them into sour cream using special pins.
Rowe achieved the effect he wanted, but apparently forgot about the moment with the plates. The scene has not ceased to be less iconic.
