INDOPOSCO.ID – Professor of health and neurologist at Unika Atma Jaya Prof. Dr. dr. Yuda Turana, Sp.S (K) explained that exposure to AC is not the cause of bell’s palsy or paralysis on one side of the facial muscles so that they appear to sag.
“Obviously not true. This means that we know that almost everyone who works in an office also uses air conditioning, and not all of them have bell’s palsy. So that means it’s not true that Bell’s palsy is due to the air conditioner. So the cause is a virus,” said Yuda when contacted by ANTARA, Saturday (11/2).
“Some say being exposed to air conditioning on one side can cause bell’s palsy. Indeed, being exposed to air conditioning on the one hand is not good for health. But that’s not the cause of Bell’s palsy,” he added.
Furthermore, Yuda explained that bell’s palsy is also different from stroke. However, it is difficult for ordinary people to distinguish these two diseases because they have similar symptoms.
“In general, the symptoms for ordinary people are indeed difficult to distinguish. So I always say, if there is paralysis on one side, we consider it bad first. We consider stroke first. But actually, even though the symptoms are almost the same, the causes are different,” explained Yuda.
