The Borussia Dortmund midfielder replaced Harry Kane in England’s 1-0 win over Croatia.
Jude Bellingham became the youngest player in European Championship history when he came on for England on Sunday. The 17-year-old came off the bench to replace Harry Kane in his team’s first match against Croatia (1-0).
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder also broke Michael Owen’s record by becoming the youngest player to represent England in a major tournament. Bellingham is now the youngest player of all nations to participate in a European Championship since the creation of this competition – never won by England – in 1960.
Recruited at a gold price by Borussia Dortmund last season while still playing in the Championship for Birmingham, the young midfielder has shown his full potential this season in the Ruhr by establishing himself as a starter in the Yellow and Black. He particularly impressed in the midfield against Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, despite the elimination of his team.
The previous record holder was Jetro Willems, who was 18 when he represented the Netherlands at Euro 2012. A tournament in which the left-back, then playing at PSV Eindhoven, started, but the Oranje had conceded three defeats in the group stage (against Denmark, Germany and Portugal), before leaving the competition.
