Bellevue School District Stands in Solidarity with Israel: Superintendent Aramaki’s Heartfelt Message to the BSD Community

Summary

Superintendent Aramaki shares his sentiment with the BSD community expressing that there are no easy words to convey our deep sadness and heartbreak over the lives lost in the attack on Israel, and the continued violence and terror the people of the region are currently experiencing.

Dear BSD Community,

In the Bellevue School District, we are committed to being a beloved community – a place where people truly care about each other, and there is no poverty, hunger, or hatred. An important aspect of being in a beloved community together is grieving with those grieving and comforting those in need of comfort. Today is the time for just that.

There are no easy words to express our deep sadness and heartbreak over the lives lost in the attack on Israel over the weekend and the continued violence and terror still being endured now and in the foreseeable future. As much as we all are impacted to some degree by any violence that happens here or around the world, I know that there are children and families in our BSD community who are personally and deeply suffering and traumatized by these recent events.

I want our families who are connected to loved ones in Israel and across the region to know that we, as a BSD community, are here for you and stand in solidarity with you. You are not grieving alone. I want our BSD kids to know that they are LOVED, seen, and supported. If these events impact any students, I encourage them to reach out to a trusted adult at home and school. Parents, I encourage you to share any concerns or worries with your child’s teacher, counselor, or administrator. If the school knows that your child has been particularly affected, they’ll be able to keep a closer eye out and provide support and care as needed.

I encourage our whole community to reach out to neighbors and loved ones impacted by this violence to share in the grieving and provide comfort and kindness. Let’s continue to stand together in unity, peace, and respect as a community. Let’s be diligent in identifying and standing against any antisemitism or islamophobia in our community, which will likely heighten due to these events.

Thank you, BSD community, for your continued care for each other.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kelly Aramaki, Superintendent
