In February, a new exciting product from the accessory manufacturer Belkin was leaked from the US authority FCC, and now it has been launched.
Soundform Connect is an Airplay 2 adapter for sound systems that lacks built-in support for it, that is, most. It is the first adapter on the market to support the second generation of Airplay, since Apple shut down Airport Express. Airplay 2 provides multiroom support so you can sync music to multiple speakers, and control from any device on the network.
On one side of the adapter is a USB-c connector for power, on the other a 3.5 millimeter connector and an optical audio output for connecting to an amplifier or receiver.
The built-in digital converter handles 16-bit / 44.1 kilohertz audio so it will not work with Apple Music Lossless. If this is important to you, an Apple TV connected to a receiver via HDMI is a better choice.
Belkin seems to have as many problems with chip availability as most manufacturers. Soundform Connect went on sale in the US yesterday but is already listed as sold out. The company does not have a Swedish store, but in the UK there is so far only one button for registering interest.
