Beljo prevents Rapid from being eliminated, round of 16 in the Austria Stadium?

The duty was fulfilled. Rapid and Salzburg are in the cup round of 16. While Salzburg got off to a flying start against Wiener Viktoria, the Hütteldorfers had to turn the game at the Hohe Warte against Donaufeld after the break.
In the end, Rapid won 3:1 (0:1) and Salzburg won 4:0 (2:0).

Wurmbrand with top chances

Rapid coach Klauß rotated five players into the starting eleven after the derby victory. The most conspicuous of these was – by far – Niki Wurmbrand. The 18-year-old had four chances to score in the first 21 minutes. The striker’s only problem: he missed them all. The biggest one came after just five minutes, when Wurmbrand ran alone towards Donaufeld’s goalkeeper Habetler.

As in the 0-7 defeat last year, the East League leader tried to counter with courageous pressing. Unlike in 2023, the score was still zero after the favorite’s first opportunities – and the Floridsdorfers took advantage of their first one. A shot from Petkovic was parried by Hedl, but Marcel Holzer was in the right place and took advantage of the rebound (30′).

The goal had an effect, and by halftime the Hütteldorfers’ superiority was no longer so clear.

Beljo turns the game around for Rapid

The second half began with a Wurmbrand sprint and a mistake by Habetler. Dion Beljo took advantage of this to make it 1:1 (48th minute). Two minutes and a Beljo solo later, the goalie from the Rapid youth team was unable to stop the score again – 1:2.

Mamadou Sangare made the decision with a curler (54′).

In seven minutes, the Rapid players had averted the possible embarrassment.

In the finish there were still enough chances for a bigger win, but it remained 3-1 for Rapid.

Wiener Viktoria visits Lower Austria

Wiener Viktoria had to move to Stockerau. This was less due to the friendship between coach Polster and Stockerau coach Ogris, but rather to the lack of adequate stadiums in the capital.

The last team in the Eastern League fell behind 0-2 against the Red Bull team in record time. Gourna-Douath scored after 26 seconds, and new signing Baidoo increased the lead in the third minute.

Viktoria could have made it exciting again, but goalie Schlager saved the comeback (14th).

The 0:3 resulted from an own goal (60th minute). A debacle was looming, but only a header from substitute Konate made it 0:4 (66th minute). As with Rapid, the third division team was spared in the finish.

Rapid with opponents from the Austria Stadium

In the round of 16, Rapid will face Second division club Stripfing. The Austria cooperation association is, curiously enough, led by the “Rapid pastor” Pelczar.

The club from the Weinviertel region currently has the Generali Arena as its home ground. Will this become tricky again after the derby scandal?
