“Belgium’s Special Olympics Opening Spectacle 2021 Draws 10,000+ Spectators”

Around 10,000 spectators came to the “stadium behind the barracks” to witness the spectacle. At around 8 p.m. in the evening, judoka Maarten Poels and marathon runner Bashir Abdi brought the Olympic flame into the stadium.

For the first time ever, the opening of the Belgian Special Olympics was televised live on Play Sports’ open channel.

Around 4,000 athletes compete against each other over this long weekend, almost all of whom have something to do with mental disabilities.
