Belgium’s Red Panthers Defeat USA 4-0 in Hockey Pro League Game: Still in Contention for Podium Finish

The Red Panthers beat the United States 4-0 in their 14th and penultimate Hockey Pro League game on Sunday in Antwerp. The Belgians, up to 4th place, are still in contention for a place on the final podium, before their last two games, Tuesday against the Netherlands, and Wednesday at the close again against the USA.

The day after their defeat conceded on Saturday (0-2) in the last minutes in front of the Dutch, 1st world, Olympic and world champions, the players of Raoul Ehren, 4th in the world, led 2-0 at half-time against the Americans (FIH-16).

The latter are still struggling to leave 9th and last place in the standings, synonymous with relegation. The Belgian goals were scored there by Stephanie Vanden Borre on the Belgian 1st CP (5th) and via Delphine Marien in deflection (24th).

Upon returning from the locker room, the Panthers, seeming tired from their duel the day before, continued to manage the match but without being able to materialize in the 3rd quarter. They only found their way to the nets in the last quarter with a new PC converted by Vanden Borre (50th) and a stroke converted by Charlotte Englebert (55e).

Belgium overtook Germany in 4th place, with 27 points in 14 games. The Panthers remain in contention to try to hang the bronze. To do this, they will have to win again against the United States (July 5) and try to win at least 1 point in the return against the Netherlands (July 4).

The Netherlands are already assured of a 4th consecutive coronation, with 43 points in 15 games. Argentina (32 points) and Australia (31 points), 2nd and 3rd respectively, have already played their 16 duels.
