Belgium’s Joint Committee 200 Employees to See 1.48% Wage Increase on January 1

About half a million employees who work under joint committee 200 will see their wages increase by 1.48 percent on January 1. This concerns employees of employment agencies, publishers, ICT companies and call centers, among others. Later in January, wages for staff in the catering sector, the food industry, the transport sector and logistics will also increase. This represents an increase of 1.83 percent.

The wage increase is the result of automatic wage indexation – which we only have in Belgium and Luxembourg – and whereby wages are adjusted to the lifespan, so that our purchasing power is preserved. Exactly when wages will increase and the exact amount of that increase varies per sector. Some sectors index on a fixed date, some sectors index every month or every quarter and others according to the central index, such as for civil servants.

The wage increase is much lower than in January 2023. At that time, for example, the wage of white-collar workers under joint committee 200 increased by 11.09 percent. This significant wage increase was partly the result of the sharply increased gas prices and prices of other raw materials due to the war in Ukraine.
